Our team news
I am Non-Executive Chairman which includes a number of interesting and exciting roles including supporting the Clarion Investment Committee, mentoring our Client Advisers and working closely with our Founding Partner, Ron Walker.
In my role I also support with strategic planning for the business, client relationships and introducing new clients to the business.
In 1969, having already worked for the Royal Insurance Group for a number of years, I was invited to join Standard Life as a Business Development Consultant and was subsequently promoted to the role of Pension Consultant, servicing Group Pension Schemes in the North West of England. This lead to my interest in true financial planning and investment advice.
Clarion combine sound, bespoke investment advice with true financial planning which allows clients to get on with the serious business of life, enjoying it to the full safe in the knowledge that their investments and financial plans are aligned and secure. Expert client advice and a high service level is a priority and is delivered by all members of our staff.
Most clients have a tendency to shy away from financial planning and investments and it is our role to simplify solutions and to provide clarity so that clients expectations and objectives can be achieved. We also ensure that clients understand and are comfortable with what they have. Keep it simple whenever possible.
Having been born on a farm in the Lake District I always thought I would become a vet but my aptitude for maths and figures was always better than my vocational ability to treat sick animals, which requires a special skill and a different level of patience.
Quite a number of people really, from our daily postman who always delivers the post come hail, rain or shine with a smile on his face to Winston Churchill who is one of the most revered and iconic leaders in world history. Also anyone who has the energy, determination, professionalism and courtesy to succeed in their chosen fields whatever that may be.
Not much really other than thinking about the right solutions for different client needs and problems so that clients themselves can sleep at night.
A game of golf, a walk in the country with my wife Tracey and our dog Bruno, dinner with friends and/or family and a quiet Sunday in the garden reading the weekend press and latest investment commentaries from my favourite fund managers.
All four really. At the age of 78 it just feels good to be alive, well, happy and active but if I was pressed I’d go for autumn which is the very best time to visit my place of birth, The Lake District.
