Meet John Winstanley

What is your role at Clarion?

Financial Planner

How did you take your first steps in to Financial Planning?

I joined HBOS at the age of 19 knowing that I wanted to pursue a career in financial advice. They put me through a robust training program to get me fully qualified and I became one of the youngest client facing financial advisers in the company.

What do you think Clarion offers its clients that makes us unique?

A quality service, with great attention to detail. We focus on true lifelong financial planning and most of our work is done to ensure clients can have the lifestyle they desire.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt in your role?

That service is everything! This has helped me to build strong relationships with many clients throughout my career.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Initially I wanted to be a Barrister. Researching and analysing significant amounts of data and public speaking really appealed to me.

I studied Economics at A Level and the subject fascinated me. This led to me pursuing a career in financial services.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?

I think I have taken inspiration from a great number of people in my life. My parents did all they could to help me succeed. Early teachers who developed my interest in maths and economics had a big impact on me. Also, many of my employers have been successful individuals which has fuelled my ambition.

What keeps you awake at night?

Currently, a house move! We are expecting a child in August and would like to be in our new home by then.

Describe your perfect weekend

I am happiest when I am by the sea so it would involve a day at the beach with the family, followed by a fantastic meal at a beach side restaurant with a chilled glass of wine.

Spring, summer, autumn or winter?

There are elements to each season I am fond of, but I would have to say Summer. Longer days give you the chance to be outdoors more and it means I can fire up the BBQ!
